At Kyoto City Hall: Mayor of Kyoto, Mr. Koji Matsui, and our CEO, Arichika Iwata
Iwata Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture; President: Arichika Iwata) received the "2024 Kyoto Environmental Award, Special Award (KES Promotion Award)" at Kyoto City Hall on Monday, February 17th.
Reason for the Award
Our company promotes "circular design," which creates new products and services through the circulation of resources, while reducing resource consumption and waste generation at each stage of "creation," "use," and "disposal."
As a representative initiative, we achieved 100% renewable energy for all company electricity consumption, and by providing bedding designed for long-term use, we were certified to have a CO₂ reduction effect of 42%. We also collaborated with purchasers to implement initiatives such as carbon offsetting when they purchase eligible products.
These initiatives were recognized as "actively engaging in environmental conservation activities, and their activities are particularly outstanding" and "serving as a model for others and greatly contributing to the realization of a sustainable society in harmony with the environment," leading to this award.
We want to pass on to the next generation a Japan where we can enjoy the changing seasons. IWATA will continue to contribute to building a sustainable society in the field of bedding manufacturing.

◾️ What is KES?
KES = KYOTO Environmental Management System Standard
A standard for "environmental management systems" originating from Kyoto, the birthplace of the Kyoto Protocol.
With the advent of the 21st century, where "global environmental issues are humanity's greatest challenge" and corporate management is being questioned, KES was formulated with the aim of encouraging all businesses, including SMEs, to "participate in environmental improvement activities." As an easy-to-implement environmental management system that is "simple" and "low-cost," KES is currently registered by over 4,000 businesses. It also collaborates with various regions and operates nationwide. Therefore, the name "KES" has evolved from an acronym of the initial letters as shown above to its current use as a proper noun "KES."
