“Being in harmony with nature through sleep”
190 years of history and the future
Founded in 1830. We have continued to create high-quality bedding that is one step ahead of the times by observing the ever-changing climate and natural features of Japan each spring, summer, fall, and winter, in pursuit of what it means to have a comfortable night's sleep.
We have succeeded in developing fabrics exclusively for feathers, refined our techniques for handling feathers and natural fibers, and obtained patents and utility models in various fields. We have continued to manufacture products without compromise.
After experiencing the coronavirus pandemic, we have had time to reconsider our origins. We also redefined our corporate philosophy as purpose (the reason for our company's existence and the role we play in society).
The goal is to "realize harmony with nature through sleep."
We hope to maintain a comfortable and prosperous lifestyle for people and the harmony of global society for a long time.
Iwata has two ideas for "harmony with nature."
Through our corporate activities, we aim to achieve "harmony with nature" through two major approaches.
One is to provide ``high-quality sleep that is in sync with the rhythms of nature'' to the busy lives of modern people.
People can sleep healthily if they have a sleep environment that allows their bodies to easily respond to natural rhythms such as the moon and the sun.
The other is "manufacturing within the limits of nature."
This is an attempt to shift from the capitalist system of mass production, consumption, and disposal to a sustainable circular economy.
Let's go back to ``Heaven and Humanity'' and start from what we can do.
In Eastern thought, there is the idea of ``the unity of heaven and man'' (heaven = the universe, nature and humans are connected as one).
Following the teaching that humans are part of nature and that our lives are closely related to nature, we develop products that respect the harmony between nature and people's lives, and build sustainable manufacturing processes. Masu.
We want to be a company that is needed for the future of global society, undaunted by change and overcoming challenges and difficulties one by one.
IWATA PHILOSOPHY IWATA's Philosophy
In order to realize Iwata's purpose of ``harmonizing with nature from sleep'', we conduct our corporate activities based on three philosophies.
SLEEP (Provides good quality sleep)
What people need in order to live a rich and fulfilling life, both physically and mentally, and to live a long life is good quality sleep, which can be obtained through regular lifestyle habits and a comfortable environment.
In recent years, it has been discovered that sleep is deeply related to human immunity, healing power, growth, recovery from fatigue, mental care, etc., and the importance of sleep has been attracting attention in various fields such as preventive medicine.
However, the amount of time Japanese people sleep is significantly shorter than the rest of the world, and some analyzes show that the economic loss caused by lack of sleep is significant.
The sleeping environment created by bedding has a major impact on comfortable sleep.
In order to provide quality sleep to as many people as possible, Iwata has been scientifically researching the quality of sleep and the mechanisms of the body, such as sleeping posture, frequency of turning over, and changes in temperature and humidity in the bed. Ta.
Based on this sleep science, we develop and manufacture bedding that is not only comfortable but also highly functional to support quality sleep.
SAFE (safe and secure quality)
Because bedding is something we use every day, we want to deliver truly safe and secure bedding to our customers. Therefore, we have pursued safe and reliable quality for all IWATA brand bedding from the development stage.
We carefully select the best materials from Japan and overseas to ensure a comfortable night's sleep, in keeping with Japan's climate, which experiences large changes in temperature and humidity depending on the season.
The Iwata Feather Research Institute conducts empirical research and rigorous quality inspections for material analysis and product and technology development. In addition to the main materials (feathers, natural wool, and fabrics), we only use materials that have been tested to be safe from harmful chemicals, including threads and zippers.
Each product has obtained Oeko-Tex certification, an international safety standard for textile products.
In addition, manufacturing is carried out at our own factories in Japan and at trusted partner factories, and each item is carefully finished by experienced professionals. Our production processes, including processing, and our strict quality control system boast world-class reliability and safety.
SUSTAINABILITY (sustainable manufacturing)
Iwata, which has created innovative technologies, has led the industry as an opinion leader in sleep improvement science, going beyond the realm of a bedding manufacturer. From now on, we would like to actively engage in sustainable manufacturing for the next generation.
The environmental burden caused by mass production, mass consumption, and mass disposal is now an issue for the entire social economy.
Iwata has introduced a circular economy based on three principles: 1. Design that does not produce waste or pollution, 2. Continue to use products and raw materials, and 3. Regenerate natural systems. We will advance sustainable manufacturing based on
Specifically, we develop and design products that are friendly to people and nature, using materials that are easy to reuse and recycle. We make it easy to maintain the item at home, such as drying it in the sun or washing it in water, so that it can be used comfortably for a long time, and if it needs repair or re-tailoring due to deterioration over time, our skilled technicians will take care of it.
Additionally, our factory and Kyoto office have switched to 100% renewable electricity. A consistent cycle based on flexible ideas, from product development using natural materials, long-life design, maintenance, recycling, upcycling (creative reuse of waste materials and offcuts), to the use of domestic wood and bamboo materials. We aim to create molds.
