About Sustainable Selection

"Sustainable★Selection" is a system jointly sponsored by Alterna Inc. and the Sustainable Management Association, in which Alterna recommends products and services developed with sustainable principles and methods. The selection criteria are that the products and services reflect sustainable and ethical design concepts under the principles of sustainable management, SDGs, decarbonization, circular economy, and disparity reduction. In particular, the products and services are sustainable products and services that are managed consistently from production to sales, such as reducing adverse effects on the environment, human rights, and health, and using trading methods that contribute to the reduction of domestic and international disparities.
About Camel Bed Pad
This camel mattress pad is made from 100% camel hair, which is found in Mongolia, a region with extreme temperature differences. The thick, long camel hair has the excellent ability to distribute and support the weight of the body in all directions. It reduces hip sagging and helps maintain a natural sleeping position. It also has excellent moisture release and heat retention properties, making it a product that Iwata is proud of, and can be used in all seasons, keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
The production method is also sustainable. Camel hair grows back every year. The hair is collected, washed and deodorized using a unique process, and used for fabrics that have been certified by Oeko-Tex. Oeko-Tex is an international safety standard for textile products that prohibits or restricts the use of substances that are harmful to the human body in textile products, and is only issued to products that meet the standards.
The Iwata brand is certified for each product. Not only the main materials (feathers, natural hair, fabric), but all parts used in bedding, including threads and zippers, meet the standards, and it has been proven that every single thread is safe.
In addition, Iwata proposes a circular cycle rather than the traditional consumption flow of "make" → "use" → "discard". Camel mattress pads also offer a "re-tailoring plan" by skilled craftsmen with proven skills.
Amid concerns over global resource shortages and environmental destruction, Iwata wants to promote the effective use of precious resources and contribute to protecting the global environment. We will work toward realizing a sustainable society while considering what we can do now for the future of people and the environment. We believe that extending the lifespan of products, reusing them, reducing unusable waste, and disposing of them safely are important roles of manufacturing.
