Learning from the past and new. A supreme bed with 1200 years of wisdom and the breath of trees.

We process wood grown in rich forests in its pure form.

The craftsmanship that makes the most of Japan's precious resources and the sensibility that has been revived since the Nara period. This is a powerful yet beautiful eco-conscious bed that combines Iwata's knowledge as an opinion leader in bedding manufacturing.

From ancient Japan to modern times.

Learn from the origins of bedding.

In Shosoin, there is a bed that was made more than 1,200 years ago.

Its name is "Gosho, Ontoko". Surprisingly, Japan's oldest beds are designed to ensure a comfortable night's sleep, taking into consideration the country's climate, where temperature and humidity vary greatly depending on the four seasons. Iwata considers the sensitivity and excellent functionality of ``Otoko'', the origin of bedding. By bringing together the wisdom and technology of designers, lumber producers, sawmills, and furniture workshops, we have created a bed that fits modern living environments. The ultimate sleep and aesthetic sense revived from ancient Japan to modern Japan.

"ontoko" is an old and new proposal from Iwata.

Make the most of your precious resources. Finished with domestically produced solid wood.

Made from domestically produced solid wood, one of the few renewable resources available. Even scraps and curved wood that cannot be used as construction materials are processed without wasting them and brought to life as furniture materials. We carefully design the pieces so that even the smallest knots remain unique.

Birch wood from Hokkaido

We cut down broad-leaved trees grown in the land of Hokkaido in a planned manner to minimize environmental impact. The grain of the wood is fine and has an elegant texture, and the longer you use it, the more it will blend in. Using delicate and advanced seasoning technology, we process laminated wood suitable for furniture.

Cypress from Gifu Prefecture

Cypress has been used as a material for shrines, temples, and housing construction since ancient times. The floorboards of ``ontoko'' retain the pale pink wood surface and the aromatic characteristics of cypress.

Tatami mats were developed for beds and have excellent moisture absorption and release properties.

``ontoko'' tatami mats are designed to prevent stuffiness and discoloration that is common with regular tatami mats.
The front of the tatami mat is made of washi paper processed into a koyori shape.
It is resistant to friction, has excellent breathability, and is more durable than a rush surface.
The upper layer of the tatami floor (inner part) beneath this washi paper is filled with 100% linen felt that prevents moisture from accumulating. The tatami floor is made of insulation board made by hardening wood or other fibers with starch and forming them into a board shape.
At the bottom, we pasted a 2mm thick 100% polyester non-woven fabric.
Breathability, moisture absorption and desorption properties, and durability. Iwata's original tatami mats for beds that are always clean and comfortable to use.
